LJ Taylor, Chairman of the Board at Equal Exchange to speak

Fair Trade has become an important player in changing buying habits of an increasingly sophisticated consumer. It has established standards for treatment, compensation and quality of life for the small farmers and growers in developing nations.

Coffee has been an important commodity for these growers and in these last few decades, the appreciation of coffee has reached new heights. Fair Trade partners have been better educated and have learned to be better growers. This has improved the quality of coffee.

It is estimated that 2.25 billion cups of coffee are consumed each day worldwide and a new coffee culture has emerged.

Equal Exchange, the leading coffee cooperative in the United States and has been our coffee partner since our inception and so we are pleased to welcome Mr. LJ Taylor, Chair of the Board of Directors of Equal Exchange to our store on May 18 at 3pm. He will discuss the virtues and importance of Fair Trade and about the many complexities in producing the perfect cup of coffee.

Members of Fair Trade Teaneck, including its chair, Dr. Dennis Klein, will discuss the efforts that have established Teaneck as one of the 4 communities in New Jersey who have collectively committed to Fair Trade goals and missions.

L.J. Taylor has previously worked for Starbucks and has traveled to Nicaragua and Peru to meet small-scale farmer partners. He remains committed to Fair Trade and Co-ops around the world.
