Councilwoman Lizette Parker Presents 6th Annual Black History Month Breakfast

Councilwoman Lizette Parker invites you to attend her 6th Annual Black History Month Breakfast. This year’s theme is Celebrating African-Americans ~ Making A Difference In the Community. The event will be held at the Logan Family Life Center, 274 Central Avenue, Hackensack, NJ 07601 on Saturday, February 8, 2014 from 9am to 12:00 noon.  

This year's awardees include J. Allyn Bivins (Youth Award), Cedrick James, President Teaneck Youth Football League (Youth Leadership Award), Dr. Maredia D. L. Warren, Music Education Coordinator New Jersey City University (Cultural Arts Award), Deborah Witcher Jackson, Past President National Coalition of 100 Black Women Bergen/Passaic Chapter (Advocacy Award), Patricia White, Chairperson Teaneck Advisory Board on Community Relations (Community Leadership Award), Gloria Wilson, Vice President North East Presidents Teaneck Block Association (Community Service Award), and the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Clubs Inc. Teaneck/Englewood & Vicinity, (Organization Community Service Award).  

The event will focus on recognizing the outstanding achievements of community members and their tireless work in the community. Advocating, mentoring, volunteering, teaching, organizing, activism, and civic participation are some of the honorees works and interests.

Local, Bergen County and New Jersey State Officials are invited to join Councilwoman Lizette Parker and the community at this celebratory event.

“It is important to recognize Black History Month and the citizens of Bergen County who help to improve the community through their selfless efforts,” said Councilwoman Parker. “Come celebrate, support and recognize these distinguished leaders.”

This year’s program will feature a dance tribute to the late former South African President Nelson Mandela by theTeaneck Terpsichoreans and a Youth Moment in Black History.  Veona Thomas, Artistic and Executive Director ofRejoti Productions will serve as this year’s Mistress of Ceremony.   

“This is one of my favorite events of the year. It is an opportunity not only for me to personally thank residents for all they do, but it also allows the community to recognize the current achievements of Black Americans,” said Councilwoman Parker.
