GWB Bus Terminal Upgrades Set To Begin After Delays, Report Says

A $183 million project to renovate the George Washington Bridge Bus Terminal is set to begin after a series of delays, DNAInfo New York reported.

Upgrades at the 50-year-old upper Manhattan bus terminal are scheduled to kick-off by the end of this year, a Port Authority spokesman told the news website. The agency would not provide a specific construction timeline.

Work is expected to be completed in 2015, officials have said.

Port Authority officials announced the renovations in 2008, but work was put on hold when the economic recession hit. Upgrades were delayed again when the developer changed contractors for the project.

Renovations will quadruple retail space at the aging terminal to 120,000 square feet of shopping, as well as a modernized bus concourse, according to the Port Authority.

Authority officials are also exploring a possible overhaul of the 63-year-old midtown Manhattan bus terminal, which they said is the world’s busiest.
