Bergen Political Activist, Paul Eisenman, Dies at 85

Co-founder of Teaneck-based Bergen Grassroots was town's former public information officer

Paul Eisenman, a former journalist and public relations professional, who co-founded the Teaneck-based good-government group Bergen Grassroots died Sunday at 85, the Record reported.

According to the report, Mr. Eisenman was fighting medical complications after he broke his hip in a fall at the Ethical Culture Society in October.

Mr. Eisenman, a Cliffside Park resident, was a strong advocate for Bergen County's pay-to-play law, which the freeholders passed in 2011. His activism was credited with getting the reforms approved, which led to limits on the campaign contributions by those doing business with the county.

His career included more than 25 years as an aide to the late state Senator Matthew Feldman, a position as Teaneck's public information officer and as communications director for the Bergen County Commissioner of Registration/Superintendent of Elections, according to Bergen Grassroots.

The Bronx native also founded Eisenman-Todd, a Teaneck-based advertising and public relations firm that recently marked its 50th anniversary. As a journalist, Mr. Eisenman worked as news editor for the weekly Palisadian newspaper and as a night desk editor for the Bergen Evening Record.
