Letter to the Editor: American Legion Offers New Tools for Veterans

Dear Editor,

The American Legion has provided new tools for veterans (not necessary to be a Legion member to utilize) and I would like to highlight those.

The new tools available are:

The Benefits Calculator available at, www.legion.org/benefitscalculator . After answering a few questions, it will help veteran’s determine which benefits the government makes available to them like VA dental care, GI bill assistance, and VA home loans.

The Claims coach, another tool is an app that can be downloaded free of charge from Apple Itunes or Google Play to any smartphone you can get more info about the down load by going to www.legion.org/mobileapps . The app will help the veteran and our legion service officer get through the VA Benefits claim-filling process. The app provides a directory of accredited American Legion service officers, a built in organizer for appointments, documents and a wealth of other resources including a secure file called “My Checklist” that keeps everything in order.

Those veterans who do not have a smartphone can go to www.legion.org/serviceofficers to located there accredited service officer information.

I also encourage all veterans and their families to visit the Veterans Service landing page www.legion.org/veteransservices in order to stay up to date on VA Benefits, changes in laws, transition programs and links to helpful resources.
