I’m responding to Miriam Levitansky’s letter which poses a series of rhetorical questions about why Teaneck Town Council Candidate Jason Castle is targeting incumbent candidates Katz, Stern and Gussen, along with Councilman Schwartz with public record requests (OPRAs)
She poses many questions and they should be answered. But first let me address the overall implication of her letter which is that Jason Castle is anti-Semitic because the only thing the above mentioned council members have in common is the fact that they are Orthodox Jews.
The reality is there are many people who don’t agree with the council majority. This has nothing to do with their race or religion. It has to do with the fact that not everyone’s in love with them nor believes that they’re acting in the best interest of the township.
People are very tired of hearing or reading about the accusations of possible anti-Semitism being said either publicly or written when someone disagrees with the Council Majority. It’s become the little boy crying wolf and should such an act truly occur, no one will believe it because it’s been so over played. So let’s cut the crap already.
Tax Appeals- Anyone can file a tax appeal- I expected the entire council to have filed for property tax appeals. What Levitansky’s missing is that people have been asking the Council to do a property reassessment since “the crash” as other towns throughout Bergen County have done, and the council majority have refused to do so. That’s the point. The citizens have been paying taxes on property that isn’t worth the Town-assessed value and our taxes have gone up 15% since Katz and Stern have been on council. (Stern was on council years ago and decided not to run again because the council at that time was under real scrutiny and there were two horrible scandals).
The Website- True! Schwartz and Stern were not on Council when the mess occurred. But what did they do to help rectify it?
Gov. Christie- Why’s Gussen added? Well being involved in politics as I am, I noticed that 4 of the 5 Council Majority are attached at the hip. If one of them knows something, you can bet so do the other three (including the fifth who helps the other four). Gussen wouldn’t endorse Christie because he wants a political career in the Democratic Party. If you’re an elected official, a member of the Democratic Party, and endorse a candidate from the opposite political party, you can’t run as a candidate in the Democratic Party. Obviously Stern, Katz, and Schwartz have no political ambitions within that Party.
Miriam’s question about the public records request regarding Christie endorsements raises an even bigger question. Who told her? No one knew about it except Jason, Alan, their closest campaign advisors, and council members. It wasn’t made public. Therefore, Levitansky either found out about it by filing her own request, or from a Council member, or from the Town Manager under direction from a council member(s), or the Town Clerk under the direction of the Town Manager who was directed by a Council member.
So she probably received information without filing an OPRA while everyone else had to file, and she was privy to non-public information at the time. Interesting!
Regarding that last paragraph- If we were to actually think that Jason Castle was Anti-Semitic based upon Levitansky’s last paragraph while defending the Four men - then one can say that because the council majority was trying to discredit Jason Castle long before he even thought of running (and I DO know for a fact it wasn’t until this past October that he seriously contemplated running); and now these four men seem to pop up embroiled in swift boat lies again, then one can say that the Council majority- (these four men plus the fifth) are attacking a black man and are really racists. And they are using a woman to say it for them.
Wow, talk about being well played and set up by the very people Levitansky’s endorsing.
