Alert Neighbor Reports Teaneck Fire

Township firefighters extinguished a garage fire on Morningside Terrace early Sunday after an alert neighbor called in a report of smoke in the area, fire officials said.

The first fire engine was on the scene about three minutes after the 2:45 a.m. call came in, Teaneck Fire Chief Anthony Verley reported. Firefighters soon found smoke coming from a two-car garage used for storage.

“Units forced entry to the garage, vented the roof, extinguished the fire and checked for extension,” the chief said. “The muti-family house was also checked due to its proximity to the garage and sharing of electric service.”

Township fire officials were investigating the cause of the fire. Englewood and Ridgefield Park firefighters assisted at the scene.

While crews were working at the garage fire, an alarm came in at the Fairleigh Dickinson University campus, leading the department to split the shift of firefighters, Verley said.
