Teaneck Man Charged in Englewood Carjacking

Marijuana plants also found during raid of Rensselaer Road home, police say. More arrests expected.

A Teaneck man was arrested Thursday morning and charged in connection with an armed carjacking in Englewood, police said.

Darryl Tinsley, 27, was arrested Thursday at a Rensselear Road home in Teaneck on charges of conspiracy to commit carjacking and conspiracy to commit armed robbery, according to Englewood Detective Capt. Timothy Torrell.

Police said Tinsley and at least two other masked gunmen on July 20 lured two Brooklyn men to a vacant Englewood home Tinsley once lived in. The group made off with a Range Rover, cash, a Rolex watch and a cell phone, Torrell said.

“The bad guys then drove off in the Range Rover, shadowed by a light-colored SUV that we are trying to identify,” Torrell said in a statement. “The high-end Range Rover was later dumped in the Rock Creek Housing Development in the City’s 2nd Ward.”

Detectives traced Tinsley to a home he had been laying his head in Teaneck, where the U.S. Marshals and police officers from Englewood, Teaneck, sheriff's department and the prosecutor's office executed a search warrant.

“Tinsley was asleep in his bed when our team made entry. He offered no resistance at all,” Torell said.

Tinsley will be transferred from city lockup to county jail on $500,000 cash bail.

Marijuana plants were also found at the Teaneck property, police said. Teaneck detectives are looking into the case.

Meanwhile, police say the investigation into the carjacking and robbery remains active.

“This is an ongoing investigation and more arrests are expected. Part of this carjacking and robbery was caught on video and we have a number of leads we’re working on,” Torell said.
