Arrests Made in Teaneck High School Bathroom Fire

Fire was reported Tuesday afternoon

Three 15-year-old boys have been charged in an arson fire at  yesterday, police said Wednesday morning.

All three were charged with aggravated arson and failure to report a fire, said Detective Capt. Glenn O’Reilly.

The fire broke out in a first floor boys' bathroom around 2 p.m. Tuesday and forced the evacuation of the school, authorities said. There were no serious injuries. Police did not say what motivated the alleged arson.

were on the scene in two minutes and knocked down the fire, officials said.

"The first floor hallway was full of acrid smoke," Fire Chief Anthony Verley said in a news release.

The high school call came as fire crews were already responding to a reported house fire, which eventually turned out to be an equipment problem, Verley said. While working at the bathroom fire, Teaneck and mutual aid crews were also called to an alarm at Glenpointe to deal with a defective heating unit.

Well now isn't this lovely...(sarcasm). What the heck is going on in the schools? Kids starting fires (arson) another one arrested for armed robbery..what next? Granted they have been arrested but is the school going to expel them or welcome them back with open warms?

@ Karin: I dont think they should ever be allowed back in school. Society doesnt need anymore juveniles destroying the future of good children.

@Genesis: I agree with you but I have a feeling that they will be allowed back in.

Teaneck Public Schools- last week, a student is arrested for armed robbery, this week, 3 arrested for Arson! Yup, we have a great public school system in Teaneck!

i dont see anywhere in the article about the robbery it saying he was a student. maybe he was or not, but the news did NOT report that.

Yes Melvin...Its the school's fault. The parents having nothing to do with raising juvenile delinquents. Give me a break....
Karin Kiesow-Irvine December 21, 2011 at 07:02 PM
JamesTS: no it was not in THIS article. There was another article about an 18 year old Teaneck resident that held 3 middle school students up at gunpoint and robbed them. In the comments section of that article one of Mr. Dow's friends posted ...it is off that post that I am assuming he was a Teaneck HS student or recent graduate. Just pointing out in my original post that we have had some major issues with recent students or graduates from our schools.

Wait it's the schools fault? Then I had better find a better school to relinquish my parental responsibility to ASAP. Here I thought this whole time it was my job as a parent to teach my children right from wrong.

I don't understand where your comment is coming from - The school fault ??? How is it that the school system is at "fault". The parenting duties in raising their child or childrens, starts at home. Our school system is here to educate and prepare them for the outside world they will be encountering soon in life. I don't think parenting is part of the school system agenda I do believe teachers/adminstrators have enough to do !!!!!
sharon December 21, 2011 at 09:22 PM
You are correct, it's our responsibility to teach our child/childrens the guidance that is needed to go down the correct path in life, definitely Right from Wrong so that they don't get in trouble or go to jail. We as parent/parents are suppose to be the Supporters - Teachers- .Listener and Friend. Its sad what these kids has done and hopefully that will see the wrong and get back on the straight and narrow path of life...I really hope.

I can tell your not a parent with a STUPID comment like that. Parents are not always responsible for children doing the things they do. If so then what the hell is wrong with your parents- they had your dumb---.

Now What you all fail to understand is that the students who have done these things are chronic delinquents, i know this for a fact because i attend Teaneck high school and i am extremely observant, and that melvin guy is right because we do "have a great public school system in Teaneck!" in my high school i have a excellent group of teachers i maintain a 4.4 gpa and have already been accepted to numerous schools such as, Howard, Rutgers and NyU. the actions of few should not be an assumption on how the school it self operates. “When you assume, you make an ass out of u and me.” ~ Oscar Wilde

Sounds like a stupid adolescent stunt that went outta control. Was it intentional? Have those involved had previous similar incidents? Let the punishment fit the crime. Let the students involved learn from it.

THS has a student body the size of a small city. Aberrations happen and it is very clear that the administration is prepared for such very occasional things. The school has been an academic haven to my daughter and her very wonderful friends. I'd be hard pressed to find a better academic faculty. Most of these students are prepped to go on to great universities and colleges. Some will come back as our cops and emergency workers. A handful of troubled kids is just that. I wish them and their families patience and perseverance.
Kay December 22, 2011 at 03:54 PM
@ Melvin Well the school system is pretty good. Most of the students are good students. We can't let a few give the school a bad name.
Tom Abbott December 23, 2011 at 07:37 PM
I don't think that quote comes from Oscar Wilde.
