Bail Increased For Two Men Accused in 'James Bond Gang' Burglary Ring

An SUV driven by one of the alleged burglars was reported stolen in Teaneck, police said.

Bail for a Teaneck man and another alleged burglar in Sparta Friday night has been increased, authorities said.

Teaneck resident Jerry Montgomery, 29, was arrested along with 25-year-old Englewood resident Sean Banks, 28-year-old Aasim Boone of Englewood and his brother Akeem Boone, 26, Sparta police said on Saturday.  An SUV, driven by Aasim Boone, struck a curb and flipped over after trying to outrun police, authorities have said.

On Sunday the SUV was reported stolen out of Teaneck, according to Sparta police Sgt. John-Paul Beebe. That investigation was ongoing and police did not immediately release additional details.

In a court hearing, a Sussex County prosecutor said investigators believe the four are linked to the larger “James Bond Gang” burglary ring, the New Jersey Herald newspaper reported Tuesday. The James Bond Gang was nicknamed for reportedly using a souped-up BMW to evade police, and dates back to the 1980s.

The four were all out on bail for other crimes before their arrests in Sparta, police have said.

Bail for Montgomery was increased from $30,000 to $100,000, a jail official said. Akeem Boone’s bail was also upped to $50,000 from $30,000. Aasim Boone was still being held on $175,000 bail, while banks remained held on $30,000 bail, officials said.

The four must also have a hearing to make sure any potential bail money was not gained through illegal means, according to the New Jersey Herald report. They remained held at the Sussex County Jail Tuesday.

On Saturday, police said they found more than $20,000 worth of jewelry and other valuables in the SUV, and said the items were taken from burglaries in Jefferson Township and Sparta.

In April, . The arrests were made by a Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office task force investigating a series of break-ins. Authorities said at the time they believed the trio were responsible for other crimes.

The Boone brothers were also arrested with Montgomery and another Englewood man when , authorities said in April.
