Bronx Killer Found Guilty of Disturbing Dismembered Remains in Teaneck

Man reportedly said he heard voice in his head telling him to hide ex-girlfriend's remains at Teaneck home

A Bronx man who killed and dismembered his ex-girlfriend was convicted Thursday in Superior Court in Hackensack on charges stemming from his attempt to hide the woman’s body parts in a Teaneck home.

A jury found Julio Flores guilty of burglary, hindering apprehension and disturbing human remains, NorthJersey.com reported. Flores, 36, is already serving 19 years to life in New York on a second-degree murder charge for killing Jaritza Calderon, 28, at his Bronx apartment in 2008.

Flores strangled the aspiring nurse in a jealous rage after learning she was dating another man, prosecutors said. He dismembered her with a serrated knife, loaded the body parts into garbage bags and drove them to a vacant home on Ardsley Court.

Teaneck police arrested Flores after the homeowner happened to stop by and confronted him about being on the property. When stopped, Flores told the owner he had killed someone, according to court documents.

“The defendant then pointed to the house and stated, ‘she's inside,’” Flores told a township police sergeant after calmly saying he killed his ex-girlfriend, court papers filed in Bronx Superior Court said. A police license plate check revealed Flores was being sought by New York City authorities in Calderon’s disappearance.

Investigators found Calderon’s body parts buried in concrete in plastic containers under the home’s basement staircase, prosecutors said.

Conflicting accounts have emerged as to why Flores ended up in Teaneck. Authorities initially said he had done work at the home, but at trial in Hackensack, Flores said a voice in his head told him to pick the house.

Flores faces a possible 10-year prison term when he is sentenced Sept. 20.  He is set to be returned to a maximum security New York State prison after being held in Bergen County since February.
