Brush Fires Along Route 4 Cause Delays

Police closed two lanes while crews extinguished the fires.

Fire crews quickly extinguished two small brush fires along Route 4 westbound late Saturday afternoon.

Both fires, near the Decatur Avenue exit, were contained to small areas of brush and caused no injuries. Officials said the first reports of the fire came in around 5 p.m.

The flames sent smoke into the air above Route 4 and forced police to block two westbound lanes near the scene. The Department of Transportation reported delays in both directions on Route 4 in Teaneck as of 5:30 p.m.
