FBI Trains With Human Simulators at Holy Name

Agents drilled for treating serious medical emergencies

Holy Name Medical Center staffers trained a dozen FBI agents this week on treating emergencies ranging from gunshot wounds to serious allergic reactions, hospital officials said.

Agents with the FBI’s Newark and New York offices drilled on high-tech human-like dummies that can mimic breathing, heartbeats and replicate nearly every bodily function at Holy Name’s Institute for Simulation Learning. Training scenarios were designed around what the feds could face on-duty and meet Bureau standards.

“We anticipate that the training developed for the FBI can be offered to other law enforcement agencies and municipalities in the area,” Cedar Wang, director of simulation learning at the hospital, said in a news release.

Training included lessons on airway management, cervical spine immobilization and response to anaphylactic shock, the hospital said.

The patient simulators, which include a pregnant woman and infant, are offered along with actors playing the injured at Holy Name’s simulation center.
