Fire Contained at Maple Street Home

Firefighters faced extreme heat at Thursday morning house fire.

Teaneck firefighters worked through sweltering temperatures to douse a kitchen fire at a Maple Street home Thursday morning, authorities said.

A fire alarm came in around 10:30 a.m. and crews forced their way into the house after not seeing any signs of fire from the outside, according to Fire Chief Anthony Verley. Officials cited the home’s fire alarm is bringing a prompt response from firefighters, who contained the flames in the kitchen.

“Despite high heat and humidity the crews operated quickly and efficiently,” according to a fire department statement. “Fortunately the homeowner had smoke detectors and a central station monitoring company."

The Teaneck Volunteer Ambulance Corps also responded, but no injuries were reported. Crews from Englewood, Ridgefield Park and Bogota covered calls elsewhere in Teaneck while township firefighters worked at the emergency scene.

“If not for the central station alarm, this fire would have been much larger” stated Deputy Fire Chief Thomas Draney. “It would not have been reported until a larger fire vented itself from somewhere in the house.”

The house sustained “moderate” smoke damage, fire officials said.
