UPDATE: River Dell Student Killed in Route 4 Pedestrian Accident

Police say 17-year-old hit by a vehicle near Hackensack Avenue.

A 17-year-old Oradell youth killed on Route 4 late Saturday was a senior at River Dell High School, River Dell Schools’ superintendent confirmed Sunday.

The teen, whose name was not released, was fatally struck by a car near Hackensack Avenue around 11 p.m., authorities said.

Officers rushed to a report of a person hit on the highway's westbound lanes and found the teen, police said. The teenager was pronounced dead at the scene.

The vehicle involved remained at the scene and witnesses gave statements to investigators, according to the Bergen County Police Department, who are investigating the crash.

“It is a tragic loss that remains under investigation by Bergen County authorities,” River Dell Superintendent of Schools Patrick Fletcher said in a statement. “We have mobilized district personnel as well as personnel from neighboring school districts to be available to students, staff and the community who may need counseling.”

Police blocked Route 4 westbound for about three hours, causing extensive traffic delays into Teaneck. No other injuries were reported.

Thank you DMAB. You are right, the only people that know the truth are the people that are involed in the whole situation. And to have someone like Zizi say those insensitive comments that actually got me upset because it was my friend and it was so rude. Zizi, you don't know the whole situation and it was not right for you to come on here and say that he was a nut and basically out if his mind. To tell you the truth, he was a very nice person, he always put other people before himself and thought of others before himself. And for you to only be thinking of yourself is horrible and selfish. It is hard enough dealing with the loss of my friend but just think of how his parents must feel. They lost their young, good hearted son. They don't need people like you Zizi bashing on how they should have raised their son. DON'T EVER CRITICIZE HOW OTHER PEOPLE RAISE THEIR CHILDREN. YOU DON'T HAVE TO PUT THE BLAME ON OTHER PEOPLE, JUST SAY THAT I AM SORRY FOR HIS FRIENDS AND FAMILY AND KEEP YOUR COMMENTS TO YOURSELF.

One Love, Your welcome. Again I am so sorry for the loss of your friend. I do hope that you can pass on my sympathies to his family. Also don't think of what Zizi said. Remember all the good times that you had with your friend. You will be together one day-hopefully after you have had a full & happy life well into your 80's or 90's. Peace be with you. And not everyone is inconsiderate & rude.

Thank you, you are so sweet and so is my friend. Peace be with you too and thank you for your thoughts and sympathies. I just hope Zizi has a concious........ and it shows him what he has said. It was so rude and my other friends who were also friends with the guy, told me how rude it was to say such a thing and how dare he judge someone when they do not t=know the entire story.
