A Teaneck man has been charged with raping a young girl in Virginia more than a decade ago, police said Thursday.
Michael Redmond, 53, was awaiting extradition at the Bergen County Jail after being arrested at his township home Wednesday, according to Prince William County police.
Redmond sexually assaulted the girl beginning when she was 9 years old in Woodbridge, Va., between 1991 and 1999, police said in a statement. The two were described as acquaintances.
According to police, the Prince William County Special Victims Unit began investigating the abuse Oct. 8. It was not immediately clear how police learned of the allegations.
Virginia authorities charged Redmond with two counts of rape, four counts of taking indecent liberties with a child, four counts of aggravated sexual battery and one count of forcible sodomy.
