Teaneck Man, Three Other Alleged Burglars Arrested After High-Speed Chase

Four men, including a Teaneck resident, suspected in a string of burglaries led police on a high-speed chase Friday night in Sparta before the SUV they were in flipped over, trapping them inside, authorities said.

The chase began around 10 p.m. when a police corporal on routine patrol stopped a 2003 Chevrolet TrailBlazer for speeding, Sparta Township police said Saturday.  When police approached the SUV, it took off.

The TrailBlazer, driven by 28-year-old Englewood resident Aasim Boone, ran two red lights, passing traffic at speeds reaching more than 90 mph, police said. The chase lasted nearly a mile before the SUV hit a curb and rolled over several times, trapping the four alleged burglars inside.

Aasim Boone, his brother Akeem Boone, 26, along with Teaneck resident Jerry Montgomery, 29, and Sean Banks, 25, of Englewood were all charged with burglary, theft and criminal mischief after being pulled from the wreck by patrol officers, according to police. Akeem Boone and Banks were both hurt in the crash, Sparta police said. Banks is a former NBA Developmental League player with the Idaho Stampede, said team spokesman Travis Tate. 

Police said they found more than $20,000 worth of jewelry and other valuables in the TrailBlazer, and said the items were taken from burglaries in Jefferson Township and Sparta. 

The four were all out on bail for other crimes before their arrests Friday, police said.

Records show Montgomery has an extensive criminal history. Authorities said he is linked to the notorious James Bond Gang, a group known for using a souped-up BMW to outrun police. Court documents show Montgomery was convicted alongside James Bond Gang burglar Daniel "Tokyo" Gatson. State Department of Corrections records show Gatson remains in prison, while Montgomery was released in 2009. 

In April, with burglarizing a Somerset County home. Authorities said at the time they believed the trio were responsible for other crimes.

The Boone brothers were also arrested with Montgomery and another Englewood man after , authorities said in April. 

In the Sparta case, bail for Aasim Boone was set at $175,000 with no ten percent option, police said. In addition to burglary-related charges, he faces charges including eluding police and aggravated assault by auto.

Montgomery, Banks and Akeem Boone were each held on $30,000 bail, with no ten percent option, police said.

The four were being held in the Sussex County Jail on Saturday afternoon, and Sparta police said they were also suspected in three March burglaries.
