GWB Bus Driver Crash-Free for Three Decades

Gerald Cameron receives gold ring from NJ Transit for his unblemished safety record.

New Jersey's "safest bus rider" has logged an estimated 825,000 miles in a 30-year career without having ever been in an accident, according to a report in the Star-Ledger. And if you take the 186 line to the George Washington Bridge Terminal, you're likely to meet Gerald Cameron.

Cameron – who took the gig to pay off debt in 1981 and was just awarded a gold ring by NJ Transit for hitting the milestone – says the key to operating the behemoth through some of the world's busiest roads is to always check the mirrors.

Along the bus route, Cameron is known as much for his perfect safety record as he is for being an all-around good guy.

"He’s the best," Suzanne Sturgeon of Englewood Cliffs told theStar-Ledger. "That (safety award) is amazing — especially in New Jersey. He’s very, very professional. Always has a smile. I just feel really safe."
