Mayor Reacts to Congressional Redistricting

What do you think about Teaneck's split congressional district?

Mayor Mohammed Hameeduddin said he was surprised by news that Teaneck would be split into two congressional districts, according to a report on NJ.com.

In an interview with NJ.com, Hameeduddin said: 

“I just think, for my town, it's very upsetting that I have one group of people represented by another congressman. I think it's ridiculous."

Congressional redistricting moved a large section of Teaneck into the 5th congressional district, a Republican-leaning block represented by conservative Rep. Scott Garrett. A section of the township was put into a newly drawn 9th District.

Rep. Steve Rothman, who had represented all of Teaneck in the 9th, . Hameeduddin was listed as a Rothman supporter in a statement released by the campaign.

State Assemblywoman , former Giant linebacker and Passaic County Freeholder Director have all been floated as possible Democratic challenges to Garrett.
