Teaneck officials are asking the state Department of Transportation to widen a section of Route 4 from Belle Avenue to Englewood, according to a report on northjersey.com.
In a letter sent to the DOT, the township said the eastbound two lane stretch of highway leads to more accidents and increased pollution from delays. Route 4 narrows from three lanes through a section of the township, but officials want another lane added to the two lane area.
Councilman Mark Schwartz said the state could add lanes on the busy highway amid a slew of other planned improvement projects along Route 4, according to the report.

An agency spokesman said he was gathering information on the town’s letter Thursday.
