Teaneck Leading Zip Code for Cory Booker Donations, Report Says

Newark mayor faces criticism over out-of-state support

Teaneck was the top zip code for donations to Newark Mayor Cory Booker’s campaign for U.S. Senate, according a Wall Street Journal analysis published Sunday.

Township residents gave Booker more than $104,000 between April and June, the newspaper’s review of federal campaign finance records found. Other leading zip codes for Booker donations included Montclair, Livingston and Princeton. Booker raised $4.6 million in the second quarter of this year.

Booker, a Bergen County-native, has also received major support from people who live and work in New York City, with donations from the City reaching $1.3 million, according to the Wall Street Journal’s report.

Opponents have criticized Booker for gaining support from outside of New Jersey. A Booker campaign spokesman told the newspaper the donations were a result of the mayor’s leadership in Newark.

"They also send a strong signal that as senator he will be able to make New Jersey's issues the nation's issues," the spokesman said in the report.

A recent Monmouth University poll found 49 percent of likely Democratic voters said they would vote for the Newark mayor.
