Teaneck Voters Largely Back Booker

Newark Mayor Cory Booker handily won the Democratic nomination to run for U.S. Senate Tuesday night and saw significant support from Teaneck voters.

Booker grabbed 3,531 votes in Teaneck, according to unofficial results from the township clerk’s office. Rep. Rush Holt received 593 votes, followed by Rep. Frank Pallone at 220 and Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver at 78.

Booker, a Bergen County-native, appeared in Teaneck the weekend before the primary election and held a campaign rally in Hackensack. A Wall Street Journal report cited Teaneck as the top New Jersey zip code for donations to the nationally-known mayor’s primary bid.

For his part, Holt opened a campaign office on Cedar Lane and met with locals.

Republican nominee and ex-Bogota Mayor Steve Lonegan, who was born in Teaneck, picked up 280 votes locally, the unofficial results show. His challenger, Alieta Eck, received 59 votes in the township.
