Veterans Say Teaneck DPW Policy Prohibits Military Hats

Two Teaneck Department of Public Works employees, who served in the armed forces, were barred from wearing their military hats on Veterans Day, according to a NorthJersey.com report.

DPW workers George Rosa, who served in the Army, and Mark Marshall, a Navy veteran, say a supervisor told them to wear a blue hat as part of their town-issued uniforms rather than their military hats.

“It’s like they don’t want people to know they have veterans working for DPW,” Rosa, who was deployed with Operation Iraqi Freedom, said in the report.

U.S. Army policy dictates various settings where service members can wear uniforms, but does not address hats alone.

Township officials did not immediately comment and a DPW union official said he would raise concerns with the town’s human resources office.
