Weinberg Calls on Port Authority To Explain GWB Lane Closures [VIDEO]

E-mail says police, officials never informed of purported traffic study that led to delays

State Sen. Loretta Weinberg is among a group of lawmakers demanding answers about why the Port Authority closed two of three access lanes to the George Washington Bridge, a move that snarled traffic in the Fort Lee-area.

The Port Authority has only said the closures were part of a traffic study, but local officials were not alerted ahead of time, according to reports. An e-mail obtained by the Wall Street Journal revealed agency Executive Director Patrick Foye was also in the dark over the closures.

Foye called the closures “abusive” and said the move could have violated state and federal laws, according to the report. Foye’s message also cast doubt over the agency’s public statements that the closures were part of a traffic study. The e-mail noted Port Authority police and traffic engineering officials were not informed.
