Five Candidates To Vie For Four BOE Seats

One seeking unexpired school board term.

Five candidates are running for seats on the Teaneck Board of Education, including one for the unexpired term of a board trustee who stepped down.

Incumbents Gervonn Rice and David Diuguid are joined by newcomers Sarah Rappoport and David Gruber in vying for three seats, according to the Bergen County Clerk’s Office.

Shelley Worrell is seeking the unexpired term vacated by Henry Pruitt, who resigned from the school board after , clerk’s records show. The board is expected to officially accept Pruitt’s resignation at the June 13 public meeting.

The board is until the election. Those interested in applying should submit a resume and letter of interest by June 22, according to Board Secretary Robert Finger.

Terms for board members are for three years, and newly elected members will begin their terms in January.

Elections will be held Nov. 6, following the from April to November, in line with the general election.

According to the New Jersey School Boards Association, 468 school districts from throughout the state, representing more than 85 percent of the state's elected school boards, to November.

"Serving on a school board is a challenging and rewarding form of public service,” John Bulina, NJSBA president, said in a press release. “It certainly is one way to make a profound impact on your community.”
