Luring Reports Prompt School District Safety Reminder

Police across Bergen County are investigating a string of reported child luring attempts.

Teaneck’s schools superintendent has issued a safety reminder to parents as police investigate a growing list of reported child luring attempts across Bergen County.

“Recently, the news has included a number of local incidents of attempted child abductions. This is a timely reminder to all of us to teach our children what to do if a stranger or known adult attempts to make contact with them,” Superintendent Barbara Pinsak wrote in a letter to parents.

The tips, shared by the school district from the National Crime Prevention Council, are found in the attached letter and on the district website.

Luring attempts have been reported in towns including Hackensack, Maywood, Oradell, Westwood and New Milford. Police on Thursday released a sketch of a man being sought in the Westwood case and Hackensack police have also issued a sketch.
