Defending Bergen County Jamboree champion Teaneck muscled their way into the quarterfinals as senior swingman Joel Hernandez scored a game-high 31 points to lead the Highwaymen in an 82-52 victory over Mahwah.
Hernandez, who is being heavily recruited by D-1 schools like Hofstra, St. Joseph’s, Robert Morris, Quinnipiac and LIU, provided Teaneck with an early lead by attacking the basket from 20-feet out. The 6-foot-3 senior connected on six treys in the first three quarters.
Half of his three-pointers came in the third period alone as part of his 18 point run including turning a transition put-back into a three-point play for a 70-37 lead heading into the final quarter.
Top seeded Teaneck (17-2) will continue their run for a third consecutive Jamboree title by tackling No. 8 Cresskill in the Sunday, Feb. 10 quarterfinals at Ramapo College in Mahwah at 7pm.
