Local Soccer Star's Delightful Double in Italy

Teaneck native Guiseppe Rossi found the back of the old onion bag twice on Wednesday for his club team Fiorentina.

Guiseppe Rossi is just over six months into his 4-year contract with Italian football club Fiorentina and he is already making some noise.

Most major European soccer leagues start their seasons in August and are currently in preseason mode. Rossi played a noteworthy role in Fiorentina’s 7-1 thrashing of Lega Pro squad Cremonese in a friendly.

For his first goal Rossi stutter-stepped as he approached a penalty kick attempt and when the goalie leaned left, Rossi slotted his shot into the right side of the net. Later in the game Juan Cuadrado got deep into the box and slid a pass through the six-yard box and Rossi finished from beyond the far post.

Rossi, a Teaneck native who grew up in Clifton, moved to Italy at age 12. After tearing his ACL in October of 2011, Fiorentina signed the 26 year-old from Villareal for €10 million in January.
