NBA Boss, Teaneck Native David Stern to Retire

Teaneck High School graduate is the NBA's longest running commissioner, report says.

NBA commissioner David Stern, who grew up in Teaneck, will retire in 2014, according to a report on ESPN.com.

Stern will be replaced by a deputy and chief operating officer Adam Silver, the report said. Silver’s appointment was approved by the NBA Board of Governors, ESPN.com’s Marc Stein reported.

At 70, Stern has served as NBA head since 1984. The Teaneck High School graduate is the NBA’s longest serving commissioner, moving up the ranks after being hired as an outside counsel.

"I'd like to think I've done an adequate job," Stern said in a report published on NJ.com.

He said the league was in "terrific condition" at a press conference Thursday.
