GWB Lane Closures Expected to Cause Major Delays

Emergency repairs have forced officials to close three eastbound lanes of the George Washington Bridge until Tuesday morning, the Port Authority said Monday afternoon.

Two of four upper level New York City-bound lanes were closed, along with one eastbound lower level lane for repairs to the bridge’s upper-deck, according to a statement from the agency. Officials urged motorists to seek alternate routes and prepare for major delays.

The closures were not expected to cause backups for motorists traveling into New Jersey during the evening rush, the agency said.

“Motorists traveling eastbound to New York should consider alternate routes such as the Lincoln or Holland Tunnel, or use the lower level of the George Washington Bridge,” the statement said.
