The Township Council is set to meet Tuesday with its public session opening at 8 p.m. at the Municipal Building.

Council members are expected to officially endorse taking the first steps in a proposal to build a “splash pad” at Teaneck parks. As Patch reported Oct. 9., the new water feature would be handicapped-accessible and initially proposed at Phelps Park and Sagamore Park.

“What we’re proposing is a splash pad. A splash pad is an all-inclusive water park,” Bernard Pearson, a member of the Teaneck Parks, Playgrounds and Recreation Advisory Board, said in the report. “It’s a zero-depth water park that allows children to have a great time.”

The project remains in the early stages and council members are not moving to back any specific design. Supporters of the project are seeking the council’s endorsement as a first step to draw up more specific plans and seek grant funding.
