A fixture on Cedar Lane since the '50s, Butterflake became a kosher bakery when owners David and Richard Heisler bought the shop in 1998. In its present incarnation, Butterflake has won awards for being the "Best Bakery in Bergen County." It is known for its challah, which is available in many shapes and sizes, as well as traditional Jewish rye bread, coffee cake, pies, cookies and special-occasion cakes. Butterflake also offers catering and features holiday menus, which can be found on its Web site.
