Authorities have charged 18 people from around the region as part of a months long investigation into drug sales, gambling and violent crime in the Englewood-area. One of those nabbed in the sweep was a seasonal parks worker who was dealing ecstasy from a concession stand in Englewood's Mackay Park, City Police Chief Arthur O'Keefe said at a press conference Wednesday afternoon. City resident Shameeka Drakeford, 29, sold "mollies," a pure form of ecstasy, in a park busy with children, police said. Also charged were alleged Teaneck drug dealers Durelle Whitening and his Cedar Lane neighbor, 31-year-old Anthony Trumpet. Whitening, 28, was the gunman in a Sept. 9 shooting incident in Teaneck, according to the county prosecutor's office. …
Onetime basketball standout arrested alongside ‘James Bong Gang’ burglars, authorities say.
A former pro basketball player from Englewood arrested after a high-speed police chase last year pleaded not guilty Monday to burglarizing homes in Sparta and Jefferson, NJ.com reported. Sean Banks, 26, was arrested along with three other alleged burglars Aug. 5. Authorities said the four men, including one from Teaneck, broke into homes in Sparta and Jefferson, fled local police in a chase before crashing a stolen SUV they were riding in. Aasim Boone, 29, his brother Akeem Boone, 27, along with Teaneck resident Jerry Montgomery, 31, were arrested with Banks, Sparta police have said. Prosecutors allege the four are part of an offshoot of the James Bond Gang, a burglary ring targeting high-end homes in New Jersey and New York. Banks is a …
