PHOTOS: Mayor, School Officials Celebrate Teaneck Teacher

Teaneck Mayor Mohammed Hameeduddin, Superintendent of Teaneck Public Schools Barbara Pinsak and Lennox Small, principal of Benjamin Franklin Middle School, were on hand April 29 to honor BFMS Teacher Monica Joffe and student Alex Lecky for winning Barnes and Noble's local "My Favorite Teacher" contest. Lecky submitted a winning essay in the contest.

Despite Venue Change, Spirit High at Teaneck Graduation

Commencement saluted the achievements of 363 graduating Teaneck High School seniors

Click to view a photo gallery of the Teaneck High School graduation Teaneck High School’s Class of 2012 enjoyed a cooler venue for their graduation ceremony Thursday evening at the Rothman Center at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Hackensack. North Jersey has recently experienced extreme heat, and state officials have warned of air quality and health issues through Thursday. School district officials decided on Wednesday to move the commencement ceremony to FDU as a precaution. While those in attendance expressed gratitude for the air conditioned backdrop, many graduating seniors and family members stated that the acoustic system left much to be desired. The acoustics were terrible but it did not help that large numbers of people were talking while the speakers were at the microphone. These young people have just finished four tough years and are now embarking on their future and this is how they are treated. Rudeness reigns.   more ›

VIDEO: Celebration Highlights Latino Culture

Crowds flocked to Puffin Foundation Sunday for the third annual Teaneck Latino Community Event. The event, hosted by local group Resource, Education and Awareness by Latinos (R.E.A.L.), featured food, live music and poetry readings. Organizers and attendees noted how the event has grown dramatically over the years. According to R.E.A.L., the group's mission is to "promote a positive awareness of the Latino community in Teaneck and to be a resource for Latinos and others, through education, advocacy and participation in cultural/social community events." Mayor Mohammed Hameeduddin, Schools Superintendent Barbara Pinsak and Councilwoman Monica Honis were some of the local officials who attended. Check out the video and photo gallery for more…
