Carbon Monoxide Forces FDU Students Out of Room

Several students were moved from a room in the University Court dormitory at Fairleigh Dickinson University after a carbon monoxide alarm went off at about 4:45 a.m. Sunday, campus security said. None of the students required medical attention, and were moved to another room within the dorm. The Teaneck Fire Department responded to the campus to check the dormitory and room. Only one room was reported affected by the carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide is an odorless and colorless gas that can cause sudden sickness or death, according to the Centers for Disease Control. TFD Issues Warning After Residents Ignore Carbon Monoxide Alarms

High levels of the deadly gas found in a Prince Street apartment building early Monday.

Teaneck fire officials are urging residents to immediately report carbon monoxide alarms after they said some tenants in a Prince Street apartment building ignored and disconnected the devices. Firefighters were called to the building around 12:40 a.m. Monday on a report of an activated carbon monoxide alarm, according to a department news release. Crews found high levels of the deadly gas throughout the building and evacuated six apartments. The tenants were checked by the Teaneck Volunteer Ambulance Corps and temporarily relocated to the lobby of a nearby building. Only one tenant in the building had called to report the carbon monoxide alarms, the Fire Department said. Others had ignored the alerts or disconnected the detectors as the …

Carbon Monoxide Leak Sends Two to Hospital

An adult and a child were taken to Holy Name Medical Center after firefighters found high levels of carbon monoxide in their Irvington Road home Sunday night, officials said. A carbon monoxide detector had gone off about 45 minutes before someone in the house called 911 at 7:14 p.m., officials said. At the scene, Teaneck firefighters found high levels of carbon monoxide and traced it to a broken furnace.  The Teaneck Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported the adult and child to the hospital after finding carbon monoxide levels in their bodies, said Fire Department Battalion Chief Thomas Smith. Glad to hear that everyone was ok~could have been a lot worse. That's why everyone needs to have a Smoke Detector & a Carbon Monoxide Alarm, with the batteries in. People have them but take the batteries out.   more ›
