Despite Venue Change, Spirit High at Teaneck Graduation

Commencement saluted the achievements of 363 graduating Teaneck High School seniors

Click to view a photo gallery of the Teaneck High School graduation Teaneck High School’s Class of 2012 enjoyed a cooler venue for their graduation ceremony Thursday evening at the Rothman Center at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Hackensack. North Jersey has recently experienced extreme heat, and state officials have warned of air quality and health issues through Thursday. School district officials decided on Wednesday to move the commencement ceremony to FDU as a precaution. While those in attendance expressed gratitude for the air conditioned backdrop, many graduating seniors and family members stated that the acoustic system left much to be desired. The acoustics were terrible but it did not help that large numbers of people were talking while the speakers were at the microphone. These young people have just finished four tough years and are now embarking on their future and this is how they are treated. Rudeness reigns.   more ›

I think this is a great thing that FDU & Teaneck high does for the kids. It's a great way for them to "show off" & feel like they are walking the red carpet. Some of these gowns are stunning & the couples look great together. We went to 2 of these with our sons proms & they are fun to watch. Hope they were all safe & had a magical night.   more ›

Newark Mayor Cory Booker Tells FDU Graduates to Inspire Others [VIDEO]

About 2,600 graduated at FDU’s 69th commencement held Tuesday at the IZOD Center.

Newark Mayor Cory Booker delivered a rousing speech at Fairleigh Dickinson University’s 69th Commencement Tuesday, telling the more than 2,000 graduates to use their success to inspire others. "When you have reached the pinnacle of success as you defined it, when the world sees you for who you are, don't just stand there and have everybody look at you in awe,” Booker told the crowd at the IZOD Center. “Stand there so that you inspire others to join you as well." Newark Mayor Cory Booker to Deliver FDU Commencement Speech

Mayor, top New York Times editor and Minnesota Vikings owner to receive honorary doctorates.

Newark Mayor Cory Booker has been selected as Fairleigh Dickinson University's commencement speaker, the University said Tuesday.  Booker will receive an honorary doctorate during FDU's 69th Commencement May 15 at the IZOD Center, according to the school. New York Times Executive Editor Jill Abramson and Minnesota Vikings owner and FDU alum Zygmunt “Zygi” Wilf will also receive honorary degrees.  The school will present Student Pinnacle Awards to Morrine Omolo from the Metropolitan campus in Teaneck, Jessica Dingman from the College at Florham campus and Juliana Fiorentino from FDU-Vancouver.  FDU's Class of 2012 represents students from 50 countries, including the United States, and all 21 New Jersey counties. New System Slows Reporting of Graduation Rates

School Report Cards delayed as state gears up NJ SMART

Just a few months short of the Class of 2012's high school graduation, the state Department of Education is still tallying the numbers for the Class of 2011. Counting graduates was slowed as the department puts in place a new system for more accurately totaling up the number of students who make it through high school and how they do so, officials said. The delay has also postponed the release of the state's annual School Report Cards. Typically released in February, the Report Cards provide data and analysis for every school on their test scores, class sizes and a host of other measures. But the statewide and district graduation rates are a particular hot-button issue since the Christie administration has said it will be a central measure…
