Gov. Christie appeared at Seaside Heights boardwalk Friday to promote the Jersey Shore
The Jersey Shore is officially open for summer, Gov. Chris Christie said as he spent Friday morning in Seaside Heights promoting tourism in New Jersey. Early Friday, Christie appeared on NBC's Today Show, which broadcast its morning news program live from Seaside Heights. The governor later cut a ceremonial ribbon—a Guinness World Record at over five miles long—to officially declare the shore open. "It's an incredible day for New Jersey," Christie said in remarks. "I'm so thrilled that this morning we're here with the whole country welcoming the Jersey Shore back." After being battered by Superstorm Sandy, many businesses on the boardwalk are open and welcoming customers, though others continue to make repairs. Despite some grey skies, …

Gov. Chris Christie has been considered by some legislators and constituents to be somewhat of a hero for his response and leadership following Superstorm Sandy. But now that the storm has passed, the governor is looking toward the future and a potential run for presidency, according to a Time magazine article, "The Boss," about the state's leader. As Republicans look to place a strong candidate in the 2016 presidential election, Christie may be their choice. But state Democratic leaders said there is much the governor has still not delivered on during his tenure. Despite rumors that he was planning to run for president in 2012, Christie publicly announced several times over that he did not have intentions to run. Now months later, after …

Governor delivered his third State of the State address Tuesday in Trenton.
It’s been a consistent refrain from Gov. Chris Christie’s office following Hurricane Sandy’s landing on New Jersey’s shores. Make no mistake about it, he told the assembled crowd of lawmakers at the Statehouse Tuesday afternoon, New Jersey will be back. As expected, much of Christie’s State of the State address focused on Sandy’s impact on New Jersey and the ongoing effort to see those areas most devastated by the storm restored as quickly as possible. During the approximately 45-minute speech, one that was marked by several standing ovations—many of them for Christie, some for residents who performed heroically during and after Sandy—the governor appealed for bipartisanship in politics at both the state and national level as New Jersey …

The $60.4 billion aid package needs to pass in Congress before it reaches the President's desk.
A $60.4 billion Hurricane Sandy relief bill was approved by the U.S. Senate Friday, New Jersey Sen. Frank Lautenberg's office announced, putting it a House of Representatives passage away from reaching President Barack Obama's desk for certain signing. The bill was crafted in part by Lautenberg, vice chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee, and would primarily benefit New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. The aid package, requested by Obama and championed by state officials, including Gov. Chris Christie, passed with bipartisan support in the Senate, 62-32. Congress has yet to vote on the bill, though the Republican controlled House has raised significant opposition to the aid package. At a recent town hall, Christie urged …

Chris Christie announced he would seek a second term as New Jersey governor.
Gov. Chris Christie will seek a second term as New Jersey's governor. He made the announcement during an appearance at a press conference at the Port Monmouth Fire Dept. Monday afternoon. Christie declined to talk in detail about his bid, saying he is saving that for a more formal announcement in January. But he did say he sought the advice of his wife, Mary Pat, and four children, over the Thanksgiving Day weekend, and got their blessing. "I have a job to finish that I would have never anticipated to have six weeks ago," said Christie. He said loved the Garden State. "I want to leave it better than I found it when I'm done." The gubernatorial election will take place in November 2013. In response to a question about whether he would …

Gov. Chris Christie promoted his Middle-Class Reform Agenda and called on Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney to make a stronger case for his presidency to the American people at a town hall event in Elmwood Park Tuesday.
Gov. Chris Christie came out swinging at the state legislature Tuesday during a town hall in Elmwood Park, criticizing its inaction on a slew of proposals that comprise his "Middle-Class Reform Agenda,"—namely tax cuts, ethics reform, ending sick leave payouts for government employees and closing property tax cap loopholes. The New Jersey governor's hardline approach to pushing Democrats toward government and tax reform even extended beyond state borders when, during the event's question and answer portion, he suggested Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney's campaign might benefit from taking a more combative approach toward President Barack Obama's policies. As governor, Christie said his top priority is to provide tax relief for …

Other top stories this week included the cancellation of MTV's 'Jersey Shore,' and the botched sinking of what was expected to be the world's largest underwater sculpture.
A 23-year-old man, described by neighbors as a recently discharged military veteran, shot and killed two co-workers before taking his own life at the Pathmark supermarket in Old Bridge early Friday morning, according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce Kaplan. A 16-year-old boy from Sayreville riding on a bus full of teenagers heading to a Sweet 16 was killed Friday after he stuck his head out of a roof hatch on the bus and hit an overpass as the vehicle drove on Interstate 95 southbound, near the George Washington Bridge, an official said. The show that made Seaside Heights famous—or, at least, infamous—is going off the air. MTV announced Thursday afternoon its hit series "Jersey Shore" will end after a recently taped season airs this …

It’s nice to see many businesses are able to reopen. It’s all about the business contributors with this governor. What about the thousands of homeowners that are still dealing with destroyed homes? If the media isn’t in tow, then Governor Girth seems to be absent just like our lieutenant governor, what’s her name?   more ›
