The Court Street Bridge linking Bogota and Hackensack is closed indefinitely, Bogota Police announced Friday. Travelers were advised to use other routes. It was not immediately clear why the bridge crossing was shut down. The bridge reopened in February after being closed to repair damage caused by Hurricane Sandy. However, a $1 million repair project was expected to continue through March. Much of the bridge structure was replaced as part of a 26-month upgrade project, northjersey.com reported. Another nearby river crossing, the Anderson Street Bridge linking Teaneck and Hackensack, was restricted to one lane in each direction after an inspection last year found the structure needed major repairs. Fairleigh Dickinson University will host a job fair featuring more than 100 employers at the school's Metropolitan campus. The event is planned for March 27 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Rothman Center in Hackensack, FDU announced. The fair is open to all local job seekers and registration is not required. "All candidates should dress professionally and bring plenty of resumes to distribute to employers," the school said. About 800 job seekers turned out for a career fair Thursday in Hasbrouck Heights, northjersey.com reported. Three members of the “Dominicans Don’t Play” gang were sentenced to prison Tuesday in the 2009 killing of a Teaneck man attacked in Hackensack, northjersey.com reported. Union City resident Gabriel Pujols, 25, was sentenced to 23 years, the report said. Co-defendants 29-year-old Frederick DeLeon, also of Union City and Hackensack resident Manuel Ramirez were sentenced to 12 and 10 year terms. Prosecutors said the three were drinking at a party in Hackensack and got into a fight with a group of men they thought were from the “Trinitarios” gang, according to the report. The county's annual Black History Month Celebration is scheduled for Thursday at One Bergen Plaza in Hackensack, officials announced. The celebration will feature keynote addresses from Clinton Lacey and Arnold Brown. Lacey, a Teaneck native, is a deputy commissioner with the New York City Department of Probation and will speak about the Emancipation Proclamation. Brown, a longtime community activist and noted historian, is the co-chair of the Martin Luther King Jr.Monument Committee and the county's African American Advisory Committee. Homeowners can apply now for assistance from the volunteer organization

Now the Bergen County chapter of Habitat for Humanity, based out of Oradell, is looking to institute a five-year relief plan to assist homeowners rehabilitate, rebuild and return to their homes. Two men face robbery charges after they accosted two pedestrians on Queen Anne Road and made off with an iPhone late Tuesday, according to Teaneck police. Officers responded to a report of a robbery near the CVS around 11 p.m. where the victims said two assailants had run up behind them, snatched the phone and fled, Sgt. Thomas Sullivan said. Police learned the robbers were seen fleeing the area in a white sedan and broadcast an alert to nearby towns, Sullivan said. Hackensack officers later stopped the car on Fair Street and police found the stolen phone inside. Latest incident was reported in Westwood as cases being investigated across Bergen County.
Police are searching for a man involved in a "potential luring incident" Thursday morning in Westwood, according to Police Captain Frank Durante. The incident took place on Lafayette Avenue at about 7:10 a.m. when the Westwood Jr./Sr. High School student was walking to school, Durante said. The man allegedly stopped and offered the girl a ride. She declined and reported the incident when she got to school. Police are searching for information about the man. He was described as being middle-aged and balding with a crew cut. He was driving a gray four-door hatchback with a NYPD sticker in the front left windshield. Hackensack police have released a composite sketch of a man they say tried to lure an 11-year-old boy into a car last week. The man reportedly approached the child as he walked to school near Union and Sussex Streets and asked where a Costo store was located, NJ.com reported. When the boy said he didn’t know, the man continued talking to him before asking him to get in his Jeep Wrangler. As many as five luring attempts have been reported in the area last week. Busy crossing between Teaneck and Hackensack needs extensive repairs, officials say. County reviewing state report on bridge's condition.
One lane in each direction on the Anderson Street Bridge was closed Tuesday after a state consultant's inspection found the busy link between Teaneck and Hackensack would need extensive repairs, officials said. The lane closures will remain in place indefinitely, along with a 15-ton weight restriction forcing eleven bus routes to be detoured to Route 4. Concrete barriers were installed to keep traffic away from weakened areas of the four lane bridge, according to Bergen County Public Works Director Joe Crifasi. The bridge's condition does not pose a safety risk, but the inspection found the structure was in need of "immediate attention," Crifasi told Patch.
