New restaurant to offer late night eats on Cedar Lane
A new Cedar Lane restaurant launched by a former waiter at Louie's Charcoal Pit is scheduled to open Sunday morning. Al's Charcoal Pit, a diner-style eatery at the former Mabat Steakhouse location, will open at 7 a.m., according to ex-Louie's staffer K. M. S. Alom, known to most customers as Al. The restaurant will be open seven days a week from 6 a.m. to midnight, with a 24-hour schedule planned, he told Patch Saturday. The menu include everything from breakfasts, burgers and steaks to soups and Greek-fare, he told Patch in a March interview. A group of Teaneck residents plan to gather early tomorrow for the unofficial opening. Al's former employer, longtime Teaneck favorite Louie's Charcoal Pit, closed late last year. A developer's …

Diner-style restaurant planned on Cedar Lane
A former waiter at Louie's Charcoal Pit, which closed last year, is set to open a new restaurant next month not far from the longtime Teaneck landmark. The new diner-style eatery, called Al's Charcoal Pit, will open at what was Mabat Steakhouse at Cedar Lane and Elm Avenue, and be run by the popular Louie's staffer K. M. S. Alom, known to most customers as Al. In an interview Tuesday, he said loyal Louie's fans have been asking him to launch his own diner since the Cedar Lane staple closed. Al said he was approached with an opportunity to run the new eatery and jumped at the chance. "They said 'I want to see you again,'" the 20 year Louie's veteran said, adding customers had been calling and sending letters since Louie's shut down. …

Plan calls for drive-through pharmacy on Cedar Lane
A developer seeking to build a Walgreens pharmacy in place of three Cedar Lane structures is set to appear before the township zoning board Thursday night. Win Development LLC has unveiled plans to demolish the former Louie's Charcoal Pit, the vacant Davis Toys and corner gas station Larry's Friendly Service to make way for the pharmacy. The project includes a drive-through, 26 space parking lot and additional driveways. Residents have raised concerns over the potential traffic impact from a drive-through and balked at the prospect of a third drug store opening in the immediate area. The property owners, however, have said they are struggling financially and Walgreens is their only serious offer. Thursday's public meeting is set for 7 …

Proposed pharmacy could replace Louie's and two other Cedar Lane properties. Public meeting scheduled for Thursday night.
The developer seeking to build a Walgreens on Cedar Lane will hold a public meeting Thursday night to share details of the project and gather community input, a representative said today. The pharmacy is planned in place of three adjacent properties, including the shuttered Louie's diner and a corner gas station at Cedar Lane and Elm Avenue. "We think we have an excellent application that will revitalize Cedar Lane," said Victor Herlinsky, an attorney representing the project. Plans call for the Walgreens to include a drive-through, and Herlinsky said additional details would be shared at the meeting. If built, Walgreens would become the third drug store in the immediate area. Another Walgreens store on Cedar Lane closed and is now a …

Walgreens pharmacy has submitted a zoning application to open in the former Louie's diner location and two adjoining properties on Cedar Lane, officials confirmed to Patch last week. Details of the proposed drug store remained unclear as the zoning application has not been competed, but the pharmacy would be the third in the immediate area. Walgreens is eyeing a gas station next to Louie's and another vacant property next-door for the store, officials say. Louie's announced it would close days after the Cedar Lane Cinemas shut down, leaving many merchants wondering how the closures would impact other struggling businesses. Just stopped by today. I hardly ever went to Louie's but I do remember Al vaguely, but now I will never forget him. I got a burger and fries and I don't want to say, but I was unable to play...I'm not a regular at Louies so he doesn't know me, but he gave me the meal for FREE! Al is a super nice guy and please support this business. I will definitely be back and appreciate his kind gesture.   more ›
