Plan to attack New York City collapsed after carjacked vehicle ran low on gas, police commissioner says.
The Boston Marathon bombers hatched a last-minute plot to detonate their remaining explosives in New York City's Times Square, but the scheme fell apart when they realized that their carjacked SUV was low on gas, city officials said Thursday. Photographer Willy Thompson, a Teaneck firefighter, captured images of the Space Shuttle Enterprise's trip by barge from Jersey City to the Intrepid Museum Wednesday. The shuttle sailed by New York City landmarks, including the World Trade Center site and the Statue of Liberty. Boats from the New York City Police Department, Fire Department and a New York Water Taxi followed the shuttle on its historic trip. Scores of spectators from across the area lined the Hudson River waterfront to catch a glimpse of the shuttle. Wednesday's trip was the last leg of the shuttle's trip to the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum on Manhattan's west side. The shuttle exhibit will open July 19. Teaneck firefighter and photographer Willy Thompson captured the start of Fleet Week on the Hudson River Wednesday. Twenty-one U.S. and coalition ships sailed to New York City to mark the start of Fleet Week New York. The event also featured 23 aircraft, including the Navy Blue Angels and the Canadian Snowbirds. Prosecutor says additional arrest is possible
TEANECK, NJ -- A jealous husband was behind the killing of a Teaneck man who was found shot to death last year in his charred Elm Avenue home, authorities charged Friday. Sui Kam “Tony” Tung, 49, faces first-degree murder, first-degree felony murder and aggravated arson charges in the March 2011 death of Robert Cantor, according to a statement released Friday night by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office. Tung confronted Cantor at his home late the night of March 6, 2011 after learning of an affair between Tung’s estranged wife and Cantor, Prosecutor John Molinelli said in the statement. Brooklyn man signed for shipment of suspected marijuana, police say.
Two New York City men were arrested after one of them went to a Teaneck post office to pick up a shipment of suspected marijuana sent through U.S. mail, police said. Postal Service inspectors alerted local police on Tuesday that a shipment of about ten pounds of pot bound for Voorhees Street had been intercepted, Teaneck Police Chief Robert A. Wilson said in a statement Wednesday. When the drugs didn’t arrive, the addressee, Kewing A. Paez, contacted the post office asking about the delivery, police said. A Teaneck man is accused of robbing the same Lower Manhattan bank three days in a row, the New York Post reported Thursday. Charles Burnett, 29, first robbed the Gold Street Sovereign bank branch on Monday, then again on Tuesday and Wednesday, an NYPD spokesman told Patch. Burnett pushed a customer during the first robbery and passed a note claiming he had a gun, police said. Burnett returned Tuesday morning and also passed a note before escaping, police said. NYPD officers recognized him from a wanted poster as he fled the third heist on Wednesday, Eyewitness News reported. He was quickly caught and charged with three counts of robbery, the NYPD said.
