Teaneck and Englewood men face host of charges in Sussex County case.
Three alleged thieves linked to Bergen County's "James Bond Gang" were indicted this week in Sussex County on charges stemming from a burglary in Sparta, the New Jersey Herald reported Thursday. Leevan Lawrence, 31, of Englewood, Courry Rice, 30, of Hackensack, and the crew's purported ringleader, 32-year-old Jerry Montgomery of Teaneck, were charged with third-degree burglary, third-degree theft, third-degree conspiracy to commit burglary and theft, and fourth-degree criminal mischief, according to the report. "I don't anticipate that we will be making a plea offer," Sussex County First Assistant Prosecutor Gregory Mueller told the newspaper. Teaneck man arrested Wednesday was free on bail for similar crimes, authorities say.
SPARTA -- Three members of a Bergen County burglary ring known as the “James Bond Gang” were arrested after they broke into and ransacked a Sparta residence Wednesday, Township Police Sgt. John-Paul Beebe said. The alleged gang is believed to be responsible for dozens of burglaries of high-end homes in Morris and Somerset counties, as well as other parts of the tri-state area. Arrested at the scene were 30-year-old Englewood resident Leevan Lawrence, 29-year-old Courry Rice of Hackensack and the alleged leader of the “James Bond Gang” 31-year-old Teaneck resident, Jerry Montgomery, Beebe said. Onetime basketball standout arrested alongside ‘James Bong Gang’ burglars, authorities say.
A former pro basketball player from Englewood arrested after a high-speed police chase last year pleaded not guilty Monday to burglarizing homes in Sparta and Jefferson, NJ.com reported. Sean Banks, 26, was arrested along with three other alleged burglars Aug. 5. Authorities said the four men, including one from Teaneck, broke into homes in Sparta and Jefferson, fled local police in a chase before crashing a stolen SUV they were riding in. Aasim Boone, 29, his brother Akeem Boone, 27, along with Teaneck resident Jerry Montgomery, 31, were arrested with Banks, Sparta police have said.
