Teaneck Road Supermarket Closes

New location open in Bergenfield

The Teaneck Kosher Supermarket at Teaneck Road and Forest Avenue has closed, but the owners have launched a new venture in Bergenfield.  The new market, called Grand and Essex, is already open and includes a butcher and bakery section.  "Remember when grocery shopping meant going to the corner market, knowing the proprietor by name and asking him, 'What’s good today?'" the store's Facebook page states, promising to offer shoppers a "taste of home."  Grand and Essex is located at 89 New Bridge Road in Bergenfield. More information is available on the market's Facebook page.  Teaneck Kosher Supermarket made headlines in 2011 when the market offered free hot food to locals who lost power in a powerful winter storm. VIDEO: Teaneck Kosher Supermarket Offers Free Meals to Those Without Power

As many Teaneck residents were still struggling without electricity due to the weekend storm, one local business has taken steps to help neighbors in need.

Teaneck Kosher Supermarket, at 1199 Teaneck Road, offered up free hot food for anyone who lost power in the weekend snowstorm. Customers have come from all over the area, and store manager Yitz Stern said there's no limit on who can pick up the free meals, as long as they've been without electricity.  The store has given out thousands of free dinners since Monday and Stern said Wednesday they would continue serving those in need until power is restored in Teaneck. Free food is served from 4 to 8 p.m. The store can be reached at 201-833-6030.

Come to think of it, it would have been very nice if all the supermarket's and eateries in Teaneck did the same for those without power.   more ›
