Patch interviews Teaneck resident and graduate Yasmine Rana about her latest work, The War Zone Is My Bed and Other Plays. Rana recently read excerpts of the book at the Teaneck Public Library. According to the library: "The war zone is my bed and other plays" follows journeys of spiritual destruction and redemption from the banks of the Mississippi River and the fallen levees of New Orleans to the conflict-ravaged streets of Sarajevo and Kabul. The characters in Rana's politically charged and moving plays attempt to seek and sustain love in violent circumstances. Exhibit at the library will run through Aug. 31
Artwork with a point – that’s what students at Lowell, Hawthorne and Thomas Jefferson schools have created with their “Lots and Lots of Dots” pointillism exhibit at the Teaneck Public Library. This is the second year that students from the “Lunch Bunch” have showcased their drawings in the library’s gallery. Hawthorne lunch aide and Teaneck resident Jackie Giel has been encouraging students for years to express their artistic side through pointillism, which is a technique used by Giel in her own artwork. Artist Georges Seurat is credited with developing the technique in the late 1880s. I saw the library exhibit & enjoyed her work, but especially liked the kids work, exhibited at the back. I imagine the Art departments in the various schools would use her inspirational talents in the classroom or at an assembly!   more ›
