ReplyScott Garrett does what he is told, by Boehner. Look they all scurried away, afraid of the NRA and their money in the 2014 elections, that is why the bills did not pass, not because philosophically a majority in the Senate did not agree...most actually did. These insanity rallies as you call them will be many and frequent in this country until people realize that the NRA is a trade organization, not a civil rights organization. They represent the gun industry and not gun owners. So all you gun owning NRA members out there, whose pulling who by whose nose?

ReplyFolks, take a look at the data. is the median household income representative of those households that send their kids to the Teaneck public schools? I think not. We might have a far greater disparity in the socioeconomics of where the wealth is versus whether they use the school system than other towns. Lets compare apples to apples

On the article What Can Be Done to Attract Businesses to Teaneck?

ReplyI reiterate something have said before. Lets get someone in here who knows how to develop a brand and commercial property. there needs to be a "destination shopping" piece to this as the township citizens alone cannot fully support the commercial districts we have now, evidenced by the many empty storefronts. What will attract non Teaneck residences to our business areas? National brand stores? Well, they sure do not seem to be pouring in to buy their drugs at walgreens and CVS are they. what other types of goods and services should we attract here? Clothing, Hardware? other service industries? What products have regional appeal? We need to get help in this area

ReplyThere is a wonderful and moving Holocaust Museum in Washington DC. So many other more important things that this town needs. Hard decisions to be sure but lets use public lands and public dollar for the consensus decsions on what all the public wants and needs

ReplySo the same Governor that has brought us no job growth, increases tolls, allows persons to keep their job who allowed a man to abuse basketball players at a public university, is now overseeing the third worst state when it comes to wages. Sounds like a great platform to run for President on!

ReplySo Art, in terms of a tool that the town can use regardless of leadership whats there? If no tool available then it doesn't matter who is elected. I want to hear about solutions and not political rhetoric. Anyone have any ideas?

ReplyI believe I posted on previous topics related to businesses in town that we appear to not be able to get out of our own way. I think we need outside, fresh, unbiased eyes to take a look at our commercial base and see what can be done. What are the aspects of the business climate here that makes it so difficult to start or bring a business here? Is it different in other towns? If so, why? We certainly meet the "location, location, location" rule so why do so many drive thru or by without stopping? business type? Business size? lack of town marketing campaign for its own businesses? A strong partnership between the business community and the town government seems to be lacking, or at least not working very well.

On the article Teaneck Explores Repairing P.A.L. Building

ReplySome recent history. The "PAL building" housed a ham radio group and the Teaneck Junior Soccer League up to about 2006-07. After that TJSL has had to house its equipment in the canteen at Votee and have mtgs in Rodda. I do not know what happened to the ham radio group. It was never confirmed that is was actually used as a PAL Club house. If there was a plan that included revenue for the town I would be interested in hearing it before deciding on what to do, as long as that plan did not include a Starbucks or a bank. Paul's points are well taken as to the issues related to its proximity to the Belle Ave exit. Perhaps the money could be used to revitalize the Votee canteen building so it did not flood out as it does now. Do we have an identified need for more meeting space? Lets not create structures with no predefined need.

Lets recap. An Advisory Board of the Council makes a recommendation to the council for a speaker that is overruled by the Town manager before it comes to a regular scheduled mtg of the Council. If the council was asked by the town manager outside of a regular schedule mtg to determine (aka vote on) acceptance of the recommendation is that consistent with law? The Council though does have the right to veto or not accept a recommendation from any of its advisory boards. Are we also to believe that the Patriotic Observance Advisory Board was unaware of the potential issues surrounding their recommendation of Mr. Castle? The reasons given for not accepting the recommendation are not good and the stories here about other council persons previously using the event for political gain, however inferred, are not good as well. We also have to consider that I believe the Town Manager, as a position, does have some decision making authority, just not sure if this decision is part of that. It would be interesting to see who were the other potential speakers the Patriotic advisory board discussed before selecting Mr. Castle? Were there others with similar military and service credentials? Why were they not selected and what made Mr. Castle stand out among them? Remember, when you put 2 people in a room...you have politics
