On the article Letter: Walgreens Could Jumpstart Cedar Lane Revitalization

ReplyMichael Rogovin expressed it all so well. The answer for this site has to be a firm NO! Did you hear the landlord who said at one meeting that he couldn't find any tenants for these spaces? I know of one person who was ready to sign on the dotted line for one of them - but he couldn't get it because it was going to be sold as a package. What is going on here? How can anyone believe that a giant Walgreen's in this location will be any good for Cedar Lane or for Teaneck? Why are some who spoke so vehemently against it - now switching gears and speaking in favor of it?? Wish I had recorded some of the comments at the first Walgreen's-sponsored hearing. J & J is most definitely community minded.. . CVS was a major sponsor of the film festival for several years. . . What does Walgreen's contribute wherever it goes? If it wants to come here - yet agai -, why doesn't it look at the eyesore that used to be a tennis complex and dry cleaner on Front Street. Bottom line: regardless of your thoughts, come to the next hearing (April 18th, I believe?). Speak out in public rather than anonymously online!

ReplyWhy not look at Front Street or the former popcorn factory off Cedar Lane? There are so many locations in town that would allow this to be more accessible to so many more people, and would bring folks to areas that would benefit from increased traffic.

ReplyHow can anyone be negative about the reopening of a refurbished theater?? Hats off to Dennis Gralla, the man (who grew up in Teaneck) who made it happen, to the landlord who has been committed to keeping this as a theater, to the group of concerned folks who came to the informal meeting that was held a few months ago to hear what Dennis had to say, and to all who offered support - Teaneck residents and alumni - when the theater closed. If New York City could be turned around in less than a decade, don't you think we can pull together (for a change) and make it happen in Teaneck, not just on Cedar Lane, but in every shopping area? I believe it can happen. Jeremy Lentz, Executive Director of the Teaneck International Film Festival, has said, "the Renaissance is under way." Let's believe, folks, and ACT, rather than whine.

ReplyThe point is - the song won a state-wide contest. How would you feel if you won the lottery and couldn't get your money?

On the article Can Teaneck Save Small Businesses?

ReplyThere has to be a better way - If nothing is coming from the Council or Township government, maybe there are some super successful businesspeople in town who could step up to the plate and volunteer to work with existing organizations and small businesses to improve things: physical appearance, marketing, PR, events, providing guidance for small businesses. It happens in other communities - why not here? Used to be a paid person - why not now? And what is behind the reputation that Teaneck has always had for making things tough for businesses?

ReplyGo for lunch, not only light dinners with entertainment, meet John and his wonderful chef - try the absolutely fabulous turkey sandwich - Get a little exercise and walk from one of the many parking lots, as Lorraine suggested, and support this new and wonderful Teaneck hot spot!

On the article Residents Question Cedar Lane Walgreens Plan

ReplySomething not mentioned, at least while I was there - we have a Walgreen's in Teaneck - on Teaneck Rd. - so there is a choice now of at least four different pharmacies - at SIX locations (not including what is available in dollar stores and supermarket - wait, make that superMARKET. Someone pointed out recently that Teaneck residents appear to need more drugs than food. . . The movie theater would be, I believe, the kind of anchor a Main Street needs. But, somehow, I get the feeling that this is a done deal. Is there going to be a Township sponsored hearing?

ReplyCould we leave state and national politics out of it (since we are certainly not in agreement on that) and stick to what we appear to agree on, i.e., the rebirth of Cedar Lane with the kinds of stores that we need. . .

Absolutely agree with you - but I have heard from many that the hearings (I missed the last one) have been very poorly attended, and the absence of opposition seems to indicate that there is none. . . Sorry, but at my advanced age, I'm leaning toward conspiracy theories. I cannot believe that tenants cannot be found - particularly since the movie theater will re-open soon. Maybe we need a Dennis Gralla (who made Teaneck Cinemas happen) on every case!
