FDU Martin Luther King Jr. Statue Would be North Jersey First

Organizers hopeful project would be completed next year.

A life-size statue of Martin Luther King Jr. planned along the Hackensack River would be the first such tribute in North Jersey, according to a report on northjersey.com

A sculptor for the project will be announced at an event Sunday in Newark, the report said. A plan calls for the statue to be completed by fall 2013 on the Hackensack  campus.

“Dr. King certainly is one of our most outstanding American citizens who stood for freedom and unity,” Theodora Lacey, a committee leader, said in an interview when the funding drive was announced.
