Dumont Train Fatality Ruled Suicide, Report Says

A fatal train accident in Dumont that led police to close railroad crossings in Bergenfield and divert traffic through Teaneck was a suicide, police said Tuesday.

A 39-year-old Dumont man lay down on the tracks shortly before 8 a.m. Monday and was struck by a CSX freight train, NJ.com reported. Police said witnesses yelled for the man, but he didn’t move.

Authorities asked motorists to use the State Street track crossing in Teaneck, leading to delays in part of town for hours.
